Q-See QT714-4C10-2 4-Channel Home Security Systems
Q-See QT714-4C10-2 4-Channel 1080p SDI Surveillance DVR System with 4 HD 1080p Cameras and Pre-installed 2TB Hard Drive Home Security Systems
Depending upon the size and layout of your outdoor property and areas inside the home, you can choose from a wide variety of home security systems to monitor what’s happening in and around your spaces. The Security Cameras Guide lets you browse through multiple types of home security systems and allows you to decide what the best options would be for your needs.
You may need just one camera (though most homes need more than that in order to really keep an eye on things). The minimal number of security cameras for good surveillance is usually four. The Q-See QT714-4C10-2 4 Channel security system provides the 4 channels needed for adequate home or business monitoring needs.
Highlights of the Q-See QT714-4C10-2 4 Channel System
The Q-See comes with a four-channel DVR and includes four HD security cameras. It is pre-installed with a 2TB hard drive for holding onto years of recorded images and video footage. The four High Definition security cameras have 1080p resolution and offer up to 50 feet of night vision viewing and up to 120 feet of ambient light viewing.
The security cameras are weatherproof and constructed of strong metal materials. They are excellent for either indoor or outdoor usage. The Q-See QT714-4C10-2 4 Channel system comes with a free Q-See application for the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Androids. Windows Mobile is also included in the app. The system will send you email alerts or texts when someone or a car comes into view, making your home more secure.
The home security system comes with 100-foot shielded RG-59 cables for each camera. The 2TB hard drive is pre-installed.
Setting Up the Q-See QT714-4C10-2 4 Channel System
To help with installation of this surveillance system, Q-See has a built-in Start Up Wizard to guide users through the initial set-up on the viewing screen. There may be some fine-tuning to customize the system to your liking, but it is generally simple to use and install. The wiring of the system may be a bit time-consuming, but it is not very difficult to accomplish, especially if you’ve planned ahead and place the DVR in a non-conspicuous spot in the home where it won’t be easily seen by intruders.
Comparisons With Other Home Security Systems
The Security Cameras Guide compared the Q-See QT714-4C10-2 4 Channel with the GW Security 4 Channel PoE NVR System. The results showed some similarities and some acute differences between the two security camera systems.
Both the Q-See and the GW systems have 4 channel 1080p to accommodate the four indoor/outdoor security cameras they come with. The GW cameras have varifocal manual zoom, allowing you to adjust the viewing angle of the lens. The Q-See security cameras offer 1000TV lines for crisp images and videos and are housed in sturdy, all-metal materials to protect them from all types of weather conditions.
The recorder with the Q-See QT714-4C10-2 4 Channel is powerful, using traditional connections with reliable Serial Digital Interface technology for clear digital signals from the cameras to the recorder. The GW Security system uses a network cable that connects each camera to the NVR (not a DVR), thus supplying the system with both power and a video signal.
The Bottom Line
The Q-See QT714-4C10-2 4 Channel home security system has nice wide-angle fields of view and excellent 1980p video playback, with impressively fine detail. Although this system may have fewer cameras than some others, the wide angle lets you view more of your landscape than you would think possible and does it with fewer cameras. The motion detection is excellent and useful if you only need to allow the system to record when it detects motion. The 2TB hard drive can fit in many weeks of recordings when only motion detection is used. The extra HD bay lets you install another 3TB drive if you should desire even more recording storage.
The system is very user-friendly when it comes to installation and set-up. The installation app is very good and eases the entire process of set-up. The camera’s images are crystal clear even in the dark, with faces and other fine details clearly in focus. You can also use a zoom feature using the program.
Q-See’s technical and customer support can be hit or miss, and it needs some tweaking.
Viewing images on-line can be slow with over 3 Mbps bandwidth. The Siamese cable included is black and quite bulky, making it difficult to hide. You are limited to just the 4 cameras.
